Jenna Ortega returns as Wednesday — but the character may be entering a new era

Wednesday has already changed dramatically

When viewers first met Wednesday Addams, she was determined to remain emotionally distant from everyone around her. Two seasons later, the character has experienced friendships, betrayal, supernatural danger and increasingly complicated family revelations. Jenna Ortega is returning to the role for Season 3, but the events of the previous season mean that Wednesday cannot simply return as the same person audiences met at the beginning of the series.

Her world keeps getting bigger

The new season appears ready to expand Wednesday’s world in several directions at once. Netflix has teased new students and teachers, introduced a major new family member through Ophelia and revealed that production included locations outside the familiar Nevermore setting. All of those elements could push Wednesday into situations where her usual methods of dealing with problems are no longer enough.

Independence is still her defining trait

Even as Wednesday becomes closer to the people around her, independence remains central to her personality. She is unlikely to suddenly become openly emotional or dependent on others, and that contrast is part of what makes her character so distinctive. The interesting question is how much she can change without losing the qualities that made audiences connect with her in the first place.

Season 3 could test that balance

The new mystery may force Wednesday to choose between solving a problem alone and accepting help from people she trusts. Her relationship with Enid, her connection with Fester and the arrival of Ophelia all create different forms of pressure around her. If Season 3 explores those relationships while keeping Wednesday’s personality intact, it could mark a significant new stage for the character.

Do you think Season 3 will show the most emotionally vulnerable version of Wednesday we’ve seen so far?
