Hit series Dutton Ranch has been renewed for a second season, Paramount announced on Wednesday.

The Yellowstone spin-off premiered with its first two episodes on May 15, garnering 12.9 million views in the week after its premiere, the most for an original series on Paramount+, the network said.

The show, set in South Texas, is based on characters created by Fort Worth-raised writer and director Taylor Sheridan. It comes as the latest in a string of hits in the Sheridan TV universe.

The series follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they grapple with the violent ending to Yellowstone. They relocate to a fictional town in South Texas with their adopted son Carter (Finn Little) and must contend with a rivalry with a neighboring ranch.

Dutton Ranch has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity,” Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television Studios, said in a news release. “We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in Season Two.”

Filming for Dutton Ranch took place across North Texas, including in downtown Dallas. Its filming followed Sheridan’s launching of a 450,000-square-foot film studio in Fort Worth last year, marking North Texas as an up-and-coming film hub for future series.

Season 1 is still rolling with episode eight set to come out Friday on Paramount+ and Paramount Network. The Season 1 finale will be released next week, on July 3.
