Wednesday Season 3 Filming Reportedly Shut Down After Star Suffers “Nasty” Injury

Wednesday season 3 filming may have hit a snag.

Based on the titular Addams Family member, the hit Netflix show hails from creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Jenna Ortega playing Wednesday Addams. After two popular seasons, Wednesday season 3 was confirmed last summer, with production getting underway in the UK in February.

Per The Sun, filming on Wednesday season 3 in Dublin, Ireland, was reportedly paused when series newcomer Eva Green suffered an injury to her leg earlier this month. It’s said that production had to be rearranged to accommodate Green’s treatment in hospital and subsequent recovery. The actress, 45, is now said to be on the mend. A source told the publication:

“This was really nasty. Eva sustained an injury and was clearly in pain and producers were taking no chances. Medics were called and Eva went to hospital. She underwent treatment and is now recovering well.”

It was confirmed last November that Green had joined the Wednesday cast as a character named Aunt Ophelia Frump, Morticia Addams’ (Catherine-Zeta Jones) troubled sister. Ophelia, it was revealed, was committed to Willow Hill psychiatric hospital but escaped, and she is now seemingly targetting Wednesday.

Wednesday season 2 ends with the revelation that Ophelia is being kept in a cell in Hester’s mansion, and the character is shown from behind scrawling, “Wednesday must die” in blood on the wall. Green, who is still best known for playing Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale (2006), shared the following statement about joining the show:

“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”

Green joins a cast that includes Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, and Fred Armisen. Season 2 also saw the addition of Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Lady Gaga, Joanna Lumley, and Christopher Lloyd.

Earlier this year, Doohan revealed that filming on Wednesday season 3 would take place in Dublin and that it would take around seven or eight months. The show typically is in post-production for an addition eight months after filming wraps, putting season 3 on track for a Netflix release next spring or early summer.

It’s unclear how Green’s injury may have impacted this filming timeline, but it sounds as if a rearranging of the schedule may have kept the series from suffering too great of a delay. Scenes without Green, for example, could have been brought up and shot earlier, with her scenes pushed to later, when she has recovered.

Representatives from Netflix or the series have yet to comment on Green’s injury, meaning there is still a lot of uncertainty about what exactly happened to Green and what kind of impact it will have on the show. Her injury could have happened during an action sequence, for example, or maybe it occured during something far more routine.

In any case, Ophelia has clearly been set up to play an interesting role in Wednesday season 3. It’s not clear when the show may return given this new development, but Green’s reported injury is a reminder of just how dangerous film sets can be.
