An Addams Family veteran wants to return to Wednesday.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the Addams Family spinoff series premiered on Netflix in 2022, with Jenna Ortega in the starring role. Christopher Lloyd joined the show in season 2 as Professor Orloff, but it’s been unclear whether the character will appear in the confirmed Wednesday season 3.
At a CCXP panel for which ScreenRant is in attendance, Christopher Lloyd confirms that he’s interested in Professor Orloff’s return in Wednesday season 3. The actor doesn’t explicitly confirm whether he appears in the upcoming season, but he makes clear that this is a series he would like to be involved with moving forward.
“I love it,” Lloyd tells the CCXP crowd. “And I hope I do more.” Wednesday‘s future beyond season 3 remains unknown, but Lloyd would evidently be game to keep playing Orloff in the years ahead.
Lloyd, of course, is no stranger to the franchise, having played Uncle Fester in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). His take on Uncle Fester followed Jackie Coogan’s in the original 1960s TV show. Though Lloyd may be interested in returning, it’s worth noting that he was not included in a Wednesday season 3 cast announcement trailer that Netflix shared two months ago.
Continuing the strong momentum from season 1, Wednesday season 2 was a big hit for Netflix. In addition to being a major viewership win, the sophomore outing was also popular with critics and sports an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ortega, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, and Joy Sunday all returned for season 2, which saw the titular Addams Family character facing off against a mysterious new stalker while uncovering more family secrets. Lloyd’s Professor Orloff, a biology teacher, serves as Nevermore Academy’s longest-serving faculty member, taking the form of a head in a jar.
Season 3 entered production in mid-February in Ireland and is eying a release on Netflix at some point in 2027. Like seasons 1 and 2, season 3 is expected to consist of eight episodes. In addition to returning figures like Ortega, Myers, Sunday, and Doohan, the Wednesday season 3 cast will also feature newcomers Winona Ryder as Tabitha and Eva Green as Ophelia.
It’s unclear what’s next for Ortega’s character after the Wednesday season 2 finale, but viewers should evidently be prepared for a Professor Orloff return at some point in the future. Even if the character doesn’t come back in season 3, the Nevermore Academy biology teacher may have a role to play yet.
