Wednesday Season 3 Quietly Gets Disappointing Release Update From Netflix

On January 7, Netflix unveiled the annual teaser for its upcoming film and TV release slate throughout 2026, which also included release dates for major projects like Virgin River season 7 and the Alan Ritchson-starring War Machine. However, notably missing from Netflix’s 2026 release preview was Wednesday season 3.

While this doesn’t officially mean that a late-2026 release is impossible, the series’ absence indicates that Netflix doesn’t expect Wednesday season 3 to release until 2027 or later. Considering Wednesday season 2 aired its two parts in August and September 2025, respectively, another long delay between outings appears to be in store for the third installment.

Though disappointing, Wednesday season 3 being left off Netflix’s 2026 release slate isn’t surprising. There was a nearly three-year gap between November 2022’s season 1 and August 2025’s season 2, with Wednesday season 3 also having yet to begin filming.

It was reported in November 2025 that Wednesday‘s Gomez Addams actor Luis Guzmán revealed in a live Q&A that production on season 3 is set to start in February 2026. If following the production timeline of the past two seasons, then Wednesday season 3 could arrive on Netflix as early as spring 2027. Filming for season 1 began in September 2021 ahead of a November 2022 premiere, followed by season 2’s production kicking off in May 2024 before an August 2025 Netflix debut.

Since Wednesday season 2’s release date wasn’t revealed until April 2025, that timeline suggests Netflix may not announce season 3’s premiere date until late 2026 or the very beginning of 2027. This, of course, is under the assumption that no unexpected delays will arise amid production.

Though the hit Addams Family spinoff may not arrive until 2027, Netflix has reiterated that the Tim Burton-produced and directed series remains a priority for the brand. With Stranger Things coming to an end in December 2025, more eyes are looking toward Wednesday as one of Netflix’s flagship IPs and how that may shape its future.

In July 2025, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar confirmed that Wednesday season 3 production remains a priority over any potential spinoffs, such as the teased Uncle Fester-focused series. Though season 4 has yet to be greenlit by Netflix, it’s expected that the main series’ production will still continue to be the primary concern after season 3’s work is completed.

Currently, Wednesday season 3’s story details are being kept under wraps, though the season 2 finale set up a deeper focus on the Addams Family’s dark secrets coming to light and more changes to come at Nevermore.

Full cast details have yet to be confirmed, but audiences can expect to see Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, and Joanna Lumley reprising their roles in coming episodes. As far as new additions go, Netflix announced in November that Eva Green has been cast as Ophelia Frump, Morticia’s sister, in Wednesday season 3.
