Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday is entering a new chapter

Wednesday has changed since the beginning

When Wednesday first arrived, the character was introduced as someone determined to remain emotionally independent and solve mysteries entirely on her own terms. Two seasons later, her world has become much more complicated. She has formed important friendships, become increasingly connected to her family history and discovered that her psychic abilities can reveal information she would rather not know.

Season 3 has the opportunity to push that development further

The creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have said that their goal is to dig deeper into the characters in the upcoming season. That is significant for Wednesday because the character works best when the mystery is connected to something personal. Her investigations are rarely just about discovering who is responsible for an event. They also force her to confront parts of herself that she would normally prefer to ignore.

The new family mysteries could challenge her independence

Ophelia Frump provides one of the clearest examples. Wednesday discovered that her aunt is alive after receiving Ophelia’s old journal from Morticia and experiencing a vision of her imprisoned at Grandmama Hester’s mansion. The revelation connects Wednesday’s psychic abilities with a mystery inside her own family.

Jenna Ortega is also returning behind the scenes

Ortega is not simply returning as the lead character. She has also become an executive producer on the series, giving her an additional role in shaping the world around Wednesday. That makes Season 3 an especially interesting stage in the evolution of the character because Ortega has now spent several years building her interpretation of Wednesday.

Do you think Season 3 will show the biggest change in Wednesday herself since the series began?
