Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) are carrying on the Dutton family legacy in Dutton Ranch.
The new series, which premiered May 15, reunites fans with Beth and Rip as they settle into their new family ranch in small-town Texas. There, they cross paths with rival rancher Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening) and chaos soon ensues.
“Beth and Rip were always such warriors, and they’re hoping that they may not have to be warriors,” Reilly told PEOPLE of the show’s premise. “They’re always going to protect each other. They were protecting a place and a dream of John Dutton’s for five seasons. Now that cycle, that burden is over. It’s dead. And so, who are they together now?”
Dutton Ranch joins Yellowstone spinoff Marshals as the latest iteration in the franchise. While creator Taylor Sheridan remains part of the Western drama, Reilly and Hauser are taking on larger roles as executive producers.
“Taylor Sheridan is one of the best writers in this country right now, and we are his characters,” Reilly continued. “He’s always in our minds as we’re making this, and they are big boots to fill. It’s because of him that we’re here.”

Of course, there would be no Dutton Ranch without Reilly.
“The last season of Yellowstone was such an emotional thing … It’s an honor to be in a show that was so loved and play characters that were so loved,” the actress told PEOPLE of reprising the unapologetic Beth Dutton.
Dutton Ranch sees Beth and Rip’s social standing shift from “top dogs” to “strangers” in small-town Texas, teased Reilly. In their new roles, the leading duo were able to explore greater creative freedom in telling Beth and Rip’s next chapter.
“We’ve lived with these characters. It doesn’t mean we know everything about them, but there was a handing over the reins to us, to a certain extent, which lends us to find our own voice and opinion about them and where they are now,” she told PEOPLE. “So we feel a responsibility to honor them and bring them forward.”
2. Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler

Hauser returns as Rip Wheeler, the other half of Dutton Ranch. Set against the western hills, the move from Montana to Texas is “like going to the moon for these characters,” Hauser told PEOPLE.
“They don’t know the land or the people or the environment,” he added.
Reilly and Hauser have also stepped into bigger boots this time around, serving as executive producers on the new series, alongside Sheridan.
“It was more responsibility, to be quite honest, which I think Kelly and I took on and enjoyed, for the most part,” the actor said. “We put a lot of work into the continuation of the show with [director, cinematographer and executive producer] Christina Alexandra Voros, with [showrunner] Chad Feehan and everybody else that was part of it.”
3. Finn Little as Carter

Finn Little is reprising his role as Carter, who was first introduced in Yellowstone season 4.
Once a troubled, angst-ridden teen, Beth and Rip’s son is now all grown up, navigating ranch life in Texas and a possible romantic connection.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Hauser shared how their on-screen family has carried over into real life.
“We’ve been a part of his most formidable years as a young man,” he said. “And so, to see him grow not only off the screen, but on the screen as an actor, he has so much talent, and it’s just oozing out of him.”
In between Sheridan projects, Little has starred in Those Who Wish Me Dead and 2067.
4. Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson

Bening stars as Beulah Jackson, the town’s wealthiest and most powerful ranch owner and Beth’s new arch nemesis — or as Beth likes to call her, “the grizzly in Gucci.”
In the trailer, Beulah gives Beth a stark warning that she’s “worked very hard to protect” her 190-year-old ranch, Rio Paloma. But as the saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
“Rip and Beth have secrets,” she later tells Rob-Will (Jai Courtney). “And people with secrets can be useful — corruptible even.”
Of working with Bening, Hauser told PEOPLE she’s a “wild and fun and smart” actress. This marks her first stint in the Yellowstone franchise.
5. Ed Harris as Everett McKinney
Four-time Academy Award nominee Ed Harris has been cast as Navy veteran-turned-veterinarian Everett McKinney — and perhaps more importantly, Beth and Rip’s new neighbor.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Hauser called the opportunity to collaborate with Harris an “honor” and “dream come true.”
“He’s just as good of a person, as he is an actor,” Hauser added.
For her part, Reilly said she was “deeply flattered” that “heavyweights” Bening and Harris were willing to attach themselves to the newest Yellowstone spinoff.

6. Jai Courtney as Rob-Will

Jai Courtney will play Rob-Will, a ranch foreman and one of Beulah Jackson’s henchmen.
His loyalty to Rio Paloma Ranch is revealed in the first 75 seconds of the trailer when he says, “No one understands what we’ve done to protect this ranch. No one knows what we do to hold onto it.”
Dutton Ranch will be Courtney’s first Sheridan project. However, he still boasts an impressive résumé with credits, including Suicide Squad, the Divergent franchise, Unbroken, Dangerous Animals and War Machine.
7. Marc Menchaca as Zachariah

Ozark’s Marc Menchaca has been tapped to play Zachariah, “a newly released jailbird looking to rebuild his life as a cowboy and a wrangler,” per the official logline.
In the trailer, Zachariah appears to be an ally of Beth and Rip, agreeing to help the couple in their turbulent conflict with a rival ranch.
Menchaca’s portfolio features Homeland, Dexter: Resurrection and Manifest.
8. Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana

Natalie Alyn Lind portrays Oreana, who seems to emerge as a potential love interest for Carter.
“She wears her heart on her sleeve,” Lind said of her character in an interview with The Watchlist. “I just love how unpredictable she is. You can never really see her next move coming and she’s not afraid to say what everybody else is thinking.”
On the topic of working with Reilly and Hauser, she said, “They’ve been so deeply involved with the story and the development that it has been amazing to watch them work. Especially knowing how deeply they understand this world.”
Outside of her recurring role as Dana Caldwell in The Goldbergs, fans may also recognize Lind from Big Sky, The Gifted and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
9. Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin

Juan Pablo Raba will also star in Dutton Ranch, marking his first project within the Yellowstone franchise.
According to the logline, he will play a rancher named Joaquin, who “has a knack for fixing problems, both big and small.”
He is best known for his roles in Narcos, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Six.
10. J.R. Villarreal as Azul

J.R. Villarreal’s character, Azul, is described as a “a whipcord wrangler” and “Rip’s right-hand man” on Dutton Ranch.
This isn’t Villarreal’s first time working with Sheridan. Viewers may know him as Manuel Lopez from Landman, a modern-day drama about the West Texas oil industry, also co-produced by Sheridan.
However, Dutton Ranch will mark his foray into the Yellowstone universe.
