Netflix’s gothic hit Wednesday is turning a new, darker page with its upcoming third season and has added Eva Green to the cast list. Best known for her roles in The Golden Compass and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, the actress will reportedly play Aunt Ophelia (via Deadline).
This is a major addition, because Ophelia Frump has been one of the most mysterious and teased figures in the show’s lore. Green’s casting is the first major addition for the upcoming third season, and we expect more casting announcements to follow suit in the upcoming months.
As for the rest of the cast and recurring characters, we expect the following to return:

Who Is Eva Green’s Aunt Ophelia?

Aunt Ophelia in Wednesday is not just another Addams relative, but she is one of the more chilling and enigmatic figures in the franchise’s mythology. Her presence was first teased in the second season, with only the back of her head shown in the second season’s finale.
A raven like Jenna Ortega’s titular character, she was once confined to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital after supposedly losing control of her abilities, an imprisonment that fractured the Addams family and deeply impacted Morticia, her sister.
However, she was said to have escaped, with her whereabouts remaining unknown. But at the end of the second season, when Wednesday is reading her aunt’s journal (which was given to her by Morticia), she has a vision of a woman wearing a flower crown atop her long blonde hair.
Just moments later, Morticia and Ophelia’s mother, Hester, is shown walking to her mansion’s basement. There in a cell is Ophelia, with only her back showing, wearing a red dress and having written in her own blood: Wednesday must die.
Well, Eva Green, with her experience in supernatural and gothic roles, seems like a natural fit to bring this tormented, powerful woman to life. Given her powers and her family connection, her very return can reshape Wednesday’s fate and her understanding of her psychic abilities.
When Is Wednesday Season 3 Releasing?
Although Netflix has officially renewed Wednesday for Season 3, there is no firm release date as of now (via Tudum). According to Production List, filming is anticipated to begin in Spring 2026 in Wicklow, Ireland, the same gothic locale used in Season 2.
There was a three-year gap between the release of the first season and the next. However, we expect the production for Season 3 to be faster than that. Even the co-creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, assured fans that the third season will wrap up faster than the second one in an interview with DECIDER.
Hence, we can expect that the third season might potentially be released by summer 2027. As for what the season will be about, the duo teased Tudum that they will continue to dig deeper into the world of Nevermore while introducing more Addams family members and uncovering more family secrets.
Well, what are your thoughts about Eva Green’s casting and the upcoming third season of the show?
Seasons 1 and 2 of Wednesday are now streaming on Netflix.
