The hit Netflix series, whose two seasons are among the most watched in the streaming service’s history, has so far only taken place in the United States, primarily in the town of Jericho, Vermont, where Nevermore Academy is located. Wednesday season 2’s ending teased a story that goes beyond Nevermore Academy with the titular character, played by Jenna Ortega, on the road with Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) to find Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers). It is also revealed that Ophelia Frump is alive and being held captive in the basement of Grandmama Hester Frump’s (Joanna Lumley) home.
Netflix has now shown that Wednesday season 3’s story is not only going beyond Nevermore Academy, but will at least partially be set in Paris, France. The first season 3 image featuring Ortega’s return as Wednesday shows her and Thing in front of the Eiffel Tower and next to a black motorcycle. The caption accompanying the image reads “From Paris, with dread.” Check out the image below:
Given where things ended, Wednesday season 3’s story was expected to have a wider scope and potentially incorporate more settings. Moving overseas to Paris, even for just part of the season, comes as a surprise, though. Since Wednesday is not someone who travels simply for sightseeing or vacation, and who would be nauseated by going to a place called the City of Love, she is surely there for a more serious purpose. This may involve the quest to find Enid, uncovering the hidden truth about her Aunt Ophelia, or something else entirely.
An additional possibility with season 3 in Paris is introducing France’s version of Nevermore Academy. Another such institution, Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland, has previously been mentioned, which is where Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White) is now enrolled, and Wednesday’s father Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán) spoke about spending a summer there as an exchange student. This sets the stage for yet another outcast school, which can help expand the show’s world and tie into the latest mysteries Wednesday is investigating.
While Wednesday and Thing are headed to Paris, there are plenty of other characters, presumably still in the United States, whose stories will be continuing as well. This includes Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), who is last seen being recruited by Isadora Capri (Billie Piper) to lead a hyde pack, along with the ongoing stories of Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday), Pugsley Addams (Isaac Ordonez), Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez, Fester, and Hester. Instead of moving all those characters to Paris for the season, it seems more likely that it is a temporary stop for Wednesday and Thing.Eva Green has been cast as Ophelia and the other new actors joining the cast are Lena Headey, Winona Ryder, Andrew McCarthy, James Lance, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer. It was announced on February 23 that Wednesday season 3 production had begun in Dublin. A release date has not been announced yet, but filming beginning in February after season 2 concluded in September means that there shouldn’t be another three-year hiatus between seasons.
