‘Wednesday’ Season 3 Gets a Massively Exciting Production Update from Its Star

Jenna ortega as wednesday addams in wednesday

The wait between the first and second seasons of Wednesday was quite torturous for fans. The Netflix title debuted in late 2022 and immediately scored a Season 2 renewal. But the time in between would be much longer than expected, with the follow-up set of episodes not gracing screens until mid-2025. The good news is that ahead of its second season, the Jenna Ortega-led The Addams Family offshoot received a green light for it to continue on, but precisely when to expect the next chapter is anyone’s guess. However, we’re one step closer to the answer thanks to series star Hunter Doohan, who recently swung by the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, where he opened up about where the team was with production.

Sharing a bit of good news with fans, the actor, who appears in the series as the villainous Tyler Galpin, told Rosenbaum:

“We’re about to go start shooting Season 3. We usually shoot for like seven, eight months. And we’re going back to Dublin. That’s where we shot Season 2.”

The timeline that Doohan shared is a promising one, making it sound like the series will wrap filming for its third season before we reach 2027. This certainly has the potential to put Wednesday’s return on a faster track than what we’ve seen in the past, although there’s always a chance that filming will take longer than expected or that issues may arise in post-production.

‘Wednesday’s Co-Creators Were Just as Upset About the Season 2 Wait as Fans

Back in August, ahead of the show’s return, Collider’s Steve Weintraub sat down with co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who revealed that Season 3 would — like the two that came before it — consist of eight episodes. Even then, the creative team was hard at work, with the pair sharing an update at the time that they were chiseling away at the script. And, when it comes to the wait between the first and second seasons, they were in the same boat as fans, with Millar sharing:

“Well, no one was more frustrated than us in terms of the three-year delay. I mean, we had a writers’ strike and various other countries. We moved from Romania to Ireland. So, we had a lot of logistical issues to deal with. But yeah, we’re used to doing network TV. It’s what we grew up on. Smallville every season was 22 episodes. It’s frustrating for us, too, as storytellers and creators, to have to wait to share what we’re doing with an audience that long.”

Seasons 1 and 2 of Wednesday are now streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and check out Doohan’s full interview in the video above.
