Nevermore is getting unfamiliar faces

When Netflix first announced Season 3, the streamer described the incoming characters as a “new class of suspects.” That description may be more important than it initially sounds. Wednesday works because the audience is constantly encouraged to question the people around the main character, and Season 3 appears ready to introduce an entirely new collection of people for Wednesday to investigate.

The mystery will have more moving pieces

The new arrivals include Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer, with Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy and James Lance later joining as guest stars. Their characters remain mostly secret, which means there is no official indication yet of who will be friend, enemy, mentor or suspect.

Wednesday has never been good at trusting people

That personality trait could become particularly useful in Season 3. If the new characters are introduced without immediately revealing their motivations, Wednesday’s natural suspicion could drive much of the investigation. She does not need someone to tell her that a person is suspicious. She usually decides that for herself.

But the real question is who deserves her trust

A larger group of characters does not necessarily mean more villains. Some of the most interesting mysteries come from people who initially appear suspicious but eventually turn out to have a different connection to the story. Season 3 could use that uncertainty to make viewers question almost every new face alongside Wednesday.
