‘Wednesday’ Season 3 Filming Reportedly Paused After “Nasty” Cast Member Injury

Jenna ortega in wednesday season

Filming for Wednesday Season 3 officially began in mid-February, with Jenna Ortega reprising her titular role as the delightfully deadpan Wednesday Addams alongside a massive roster of returning favorites, legendary new additions, and exciting guest stars. Netflix previously relocated the entire production base for The Addams Family spin-off from Romania to Ireland, with additional on-location shooting for the third season taking place in Paris, France, but not long after the cameras had started rolling, the cast and crew reportedly paused proceedings as a result of a “really nasty” cast member injury sustained during an on-set accident.

The third season of Wednesday is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2027. The plot will pick up from the shocking Season 2 finale, following Wednesday and Uncle Fester as they search for a way to save Enid after she transformed into a werewolf and fled into the woods. Another major player will be Aunt Ophelia Frump, Morticia Addams’ troubled sister, played by Eva Green. The character is expected to be a significant driving force in the forthcoming season, which means she could be given a lot of screen time. However, her scenes were recently put on the back burner after she suffered a painful leg injury while filming.

According to a recent report by The Sun, production temporarily halted in Dublin, Ireland, after Green was involved in a serious accident on set. Medics were called in the aftermath of the incident, and the actress was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. The production team paused work for a few days and reshuffled the shooting schedule to accommodate the star’s absence while she healed from the injury. A source told the publication that Green is “recovering well” and on the mend after receiving the appropriate care:

“This was really nasty. Eva sustained an injury and was clearly in pain and producers were taking no chances. Medics were called and Eva went to hospital. She underwent treatment and is now recovering well.”

Green’s role as Aunt Ophelia Frump was officially confirmed last November. Her casting marks a major reunion with executive producer and director Tim Burton, with whom she previously collaborated on Dark Shadows and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Her character was subtly teased at the end of the Wednesday Season 2 finale, as she was shown from behind, trapped inside Grandmama Hester’s basement. Green will fulfill the role of Frump for the third season alongside fellow newcomers Winona Ryder, Lena Headey, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, Kennedy Moyer, Andrew McCarthy, and James Lance.

Despite a brief pause to allow for Green’s recovery, Netflix has not announced any formal changes to its release strategy. At present, Wednesday Season 3 remains on target and is still widely expected to premiere in mid-to-late 2027, continuing the story following the conclusion of Season 2, Part 2. As with the first two seasons, Season 3 will boast eight episodes. However, it is currently unclear whether it will be split into two parts like Season 2 or return to the full-episode drop format of the show’s inaugural season.
