Netflix’s Wednesday continues adding to its season 3 cast, and the latest announcement makes this season the most Tim Burton ever. Netflix has some great fantasy TV shows, of which some are now among the best TV shows of all time, and one of its most popular fantasy shows to date is Wednesday.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Tim Burton as one of its executive producers and based on Charles Addams’ The Addams Family, Wednesday follows the title character, played by Jenna Ortega. The show sees Wednesday attending Nevermore Academy, where she develops her psychic abilities.
Wednesday has been a huge hit, and it’s now preparing for its third season, which already has some exciting new cast additions, the latest one being Winona Ryder, making season 3 a very Tim Burton one.
Winona Ryder Is One Of Tim Burton’s Most Notable Collaborators
Winona Ryder has built an impressive acting career, working with notable directors like Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese. Ryder rose to fame when she starred in Beetlejuice as Lydia Deetz, the only living human who could see the ghosts of Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis).
This was the beginning of her collaborations with Tim Burton, after which she starred in Edward Scissorhands as Kim, voiced Elsa Van Helsing in Frankenweenie, and returned as Lydia in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. On TV, Ryder’s most notable work is Netflix’s Stranger Things, where she played Joyce Byers.
Among the latest additions to the cast of Wednesday season 3 is Winona Ryder, who will have a guest star role. Ryder is joining Eva Green (who will play Morticia Addams’ sister), Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer.
How Many Episodes Of Wednesday Season 3 Will Tim Burton Direct?
Tim Burton not only serves as executive producer on Wednesday, but he has also directed episodes in seasons 1 and 2. Despite not being the creator of the show, Wednesday has a heavy Tim Burton influence and style, and it’s only growing with the addition of some frequent and past collaborators (such as Winona Ryder and Eva Green).
Tim Burton directed four out of eight episodes of season 1 of Wednesday (including the first episode), and again four episodes of season 2, also out of eight. Burton is expected to direct some of Wednesday’s season 3 episodes, but at the time of writing, it’s unclear how many episodes he will direct, if any.
Burton is currently working on a remake of Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, with Margot Robbie starring in it. How many Wednesday season 3 episodes Tim Burton directs will depend on his schedule, but hopefully, he will direct at least one.
Who Is Winona Ryder Playing In Wednesday Season 3?
Initial reports of Winona Ryder’s casting in Wednesday season 3 didn’t include who she will play, but thankfully, Netflix already has. The streaming giant released a video announcing the start of production for Wednesday season 3, and with that, its official cast, with new and recurring names.
The video reveals that Winona Ryder plays a character named Tabitha in Wednesday season 3, but exactly who she is and what her connection to Wednesday and the Addams family is is unknown. Netflix was very clear in that it won’t reveal details about the new characters from Wednesday (via Netflix), and with no characters from The Addams Family named Tabitha, it points to her being a new character exclusive to the show.
Tim Burton’s Wednesday Episodes Are Some Of The Show’s Best
Wednesday has been good from the beginning, with season 2 improving on the previous season’s weaknesses and expanding this unique universe. A big part of the charm and appeal of Wednesday is the involvement of Tim Burton as both executive producer and director, with some of his episodes being among the show’s best.
Episode 4 of season 1, “Woe What a Night,” is a fan-favorite and was a viral sensation thanks to Wednesday’s dance scene, and from season 2, “If Those Woes Could Talk” and the season finale, “This Means Woe,” are often considered the best. One can only hope that, if Tim Burton returns to direct some episodes from Wednesday season 3, they will include Winona Ryder’s Tabitha.
Wednesday season 3 is already a fun reunion between Tim Burton and some of his most notable collaborators – in addition to Winona Ryder, Burton has previously worked with Eva Green (in Dark Shadows, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Dumbo) and Chris Sarandon, who voiced Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
