The next chapter of Wednesday is officially taking shape, and everything about Season 3 suggests that the story is about to become much bigger — and much more personal.
Production is already underway, Jenna Ortega is returning as Wednesday Addams, and the series has added an impressive group of new cast members. But one casting decision in particular has fans looking twice at the Addams family.
Eva Green Is Joining The Addams Family
One of the biggest Season 3 announcements is the casting of Eva Green as Aunt Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ long-missing sister.
The character is especially important because Season 2 ended with Wednesday receiving Ophelia’s old journal. Her psychic powers then gave her a disturbing vision of Ophelia apparently being held inside Grandmama Hester’s mansion.
The Season 2 cliffhanger was clearly designed to lead directly into the next season.
Showrunner Miles Millar previously described Ophelia’s reappearance as something that would hit the Addams family “like a bomb.”
That makes Eva Green’s arrival one of the most intriguing additions to the new season.
Wednesday Is Going Beyond Nevermore
Season 3 is also expanding the world of Wednesday.
Production has been underway near Dublin, but an official first-look image has teased Wednesday in Paris, suggesting that the upcoming season will take the character beyond the familiar surroundings of Nevermore Academy.
The creators have also promised that Season 3 will expand the world of Nevermore while digging deeper into the characters and revealing more Addams family secrets.
For a show built around mysteries, that is a particularly interesting promise.
The Cast Is Getting Bigger
Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers are returning as Wednesday and Enid, while Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán and other familiar cast members are also back.
Meanwhile, the new additions include Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, Kennedy Moyer, Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy and James Lance.
The sheer number of new faces has already made Season 3 one of the most anticipated chapters of the series.
And The Biggest Mystery May Be Inside The Family
The creators have been careful not to reveal too much about the plot.
But one thing has been made clear: more Addams family secrets are coming.
That means Wednesday’s next investigation may not simply involve another strange incident at Nevermore.
It could force her to uncover things about her own family that even Morticia and Gomez have kept hidden.
And if Ophelia really is at the center of that mystery, Season 3 could become the most personal story Wednesday has faced yet.
